Eric Lie Biography


Academic background

Eric Lie is Macmillan Keck’s associate based in Singapore. Eric has advised clients on a range of policy, legal and regulatory issues including licensing, privatization and dispute resolution in both the telecommunications and media sectors.

Prior to joining Macmillan Keck, Eric worked for the Regulatory Reform Unit of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), advising national governments on telecommunication regulatory issues and the establishment of regulatory institutions. During that time, he was instrumental in launching the online InfoDev-ITU ICT Regulation Toolkit, which has become the international best-practice point of reference for national regulators worldwide.

Eric previously worked for the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) where he was involved in extensive negotiations with the United States Trade Representative’s Office over the Telecommunications Chapter of the Singapore-US Free Trade Agreement.

Eric has authored several publications on telecommunications regulation.


Eric received his Masters in International Law from the University of Paris 1 (Parthenon-Sorbonne) and his LLB in Law from the National University of Singapore. He is a member of the Singapore bar.

In addition to his mother tongue English, Eric speaks Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese (Mandarin) and French.
